Kodály-inspired children’s music classes in Edinburgh
We offer music classes for children which are designed to give them a solid foundation of musicianship from a young age. The classes are based on the Kodály philosophy of music teaching. This approach is all about children gaining musical skills by placing singing and games at the centre of their learning. The classes are fun and engaging and the songs are all specially chosen to teach a particular skill, for example musical pitch, rhythm or pulse. Music theory is woven into the lesson in a way that the child will pick it up subconsciously, setting them up for a successful onward journey in music.
The classes are run by Rachel: a professional musician and music teacher. Rachel is certified with an Early Years 2 certificate from the British Kodály Academy (through NYCOS) and is a member of the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) Scheme. She started learning music at the age of 4 and is passionate about passing it on.
We run blocks of 45 minute classes on the following days throughout term-time. You are very welcome to join our classes at any point in our term (and only pay from your first class).

Classes are very small, with a maximum of 3 children per class, and divided according to age. There is also an option to book a private sibling lesson – please contact us directly to discuss. The activities will be a little broader but this option is there because we understand how tricky it can be to take multiple children to more than one class, and how nice it is to learn something together as a family.

Week commencing Monday 20th April to week commencing Monday 22nd June 2026.
There will be no classes week commencing Monday 25th May 2026.

The classes take place in Rachel’s home in Currie, Edinburgh. There is free parking. Parents stay with their children and take part in the activities and songs – this means that you can sing the songs together at home in between classes!
Note – There is one cat in the house: let us know if you’re allergic and we will keep her in another room.
